Summary and Schedule
During the group lessons, we will focus on using traditional CMS ``physics objects” to design an analysis. This pre-reading is intended to familiarize you with how these objects are reconstructed by CMS and how they appear in the 2016 NanoAOD files.
Setup Instructions | Download files required for the lesson | |
Duration: 00h 00m | 1. Intro to CMS Physics Objects |
What do we call physics objects in CMS? How are physics objects reconstructed? How are physics objects represented in NanoAOD? |
Duration: 00h 05m | 2. Electrons & Photons |
What are electromagnetic objects How are electrons treated in CMS? What variables are available in NanoAOD? |
Duration: 00h 15m | 3. Muons & Taus |
How are muons reconstructed in CMS? How are muons treated in CMS OpenData? |
Duration: 00h 25m | 4. Jets and MET | How are jets and missing transverse energy treated in CMS Open Data? |
Duration: 00h 40m | 5. Jet flavor tagging |
How are b hadrons identified in CMS? How are the parent particles of large-radius jets identified in CMS? |
Duration: 01h 00m | 6. Jet corrections |
How are data/simulation differences dealt with for jet energy? How do uncorrected and corrected jet momenta compare? How large is the JES uncertainty in different regions? How large is the JER uncertainty in different regions? |
Duration: 01h 15m | Finish |
